A Work Package 6 (WP6) Workshop was held on 25th and 26th March 2010 at the University of Zambia (UNZA) in Lusaka. Our hosts were Prof. Imasiku Nyambe, School of Mines (SOM), and his assistant, Ingrid Muganya. The theme of the workshop was “Detailed technical content using the inputs from the other WP’s” and the purpose was three-fold: - Discussion of the Mid-Term Conference and Workshop 6d. After the first breakout group discussions and feedback from the two groups of participants, it was decided that the WP6 Leaders will construct a matrix table with details of staffing needed to implement and operate AEGOS at the partner organizations. This table will be used to compile details on the existing knowledge which are the basis for planning the training sessions in AEGOS phase 2. The matrix will be discussed at the Mid-Term Conference (may, 2010) and distributed to all partners for their inputs.

It was concluded that adequate knowledge in the tasks of Data Management and Data Visualization is present, but that large gaps exist in Information Technology, Data Processing and Web Applications. The next steps include: - determine the number of staff that needs to be trained and estimate the amount of funding required to train the current AEGOS partners,
- construct a workflow diagram to illustrate the activities and staff needed to run AEGOS. The definitions of the knowledge levels used for describing the knowledge currently existing at the partner institutions and required for operating AEGOS (see AEGOS Newsletter No. 5) were also discussed and changed to more common definitions:
- Expertly adequate – specialized It was decided that the minimum knowledge level for institutions to participate at AEGOS is less adequate or intermediate depending on the topic. The next step of WP6 is to define the different knowledge levels listed above for each task. After extensive discussion, it was concluded that WP6 cannot achieve this based on the current information at its disposal. The input from other Work Packages is required to assist in determining these descriptions. Other issues discussed during Workshop 6c included the format and outline of deliverable D6.7, the concept note on “Common strategy for capacity building and training”. The Mid-Term Conference in Dar es Salaam was also discussed and the participation of WP6 in this Conference was planned. Workshop 6d with the subject “Final discussion and decisions for all detailed measures for content, organization and implementation”, was also discussed. This workshop is scheduled for 27th to 29th October 2010 at the Council for Geoscience in Pretoria, South Africa.
