The AEGOS project aims at setting-up the preparatory phase for the building of an information system containing and making accessible data and knowledge on African geological resources including mineral resources, raw material, groundwater and energy (georesources).

Mid-Term Conference

Held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on May 25th, 2010, the conference attracted nearly 90 participants from 27 countries, including data managers and decision makers in the fields of SDI and geology-related natural resources in Africa

AEGOS is a support action (December 2008 - November 2011) of the European Union 7th Research & Technological Development Framework.


alt Design a pan-African infrastructure of interoperable data and user-oriented services to strengthen the sustainable use of georesources in Africa.

alt Contribute to the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) through the setting-up of a Solid Earth observation system in Africa.

alt Elaborate common strategies for capacity building and training programmes.

 alt Support geoscientific communities and institutional decision-makers for setting up sustainable development research and public policies.
