The following knowledge levels will be discussed during Workshop 6c on ‘Detailed technical contents using the inputs from the other Work Packages in Lusaka:
1) The AEGOS knowledge level describes the complete knowledge and skills which are required for implementing and generating the AEGOS infrastructure components. The knowledge is expertly adequate since the staff of the institution is highly educated and capable of conducting all activities related to the operation of an SDI.
2) The existing knowledge level describes the qualifications that currently exist within the partner institutions of AEGOS. It can be expertly adequate, adequate, less adequate or not adequate depending on the
education and training of the human resources currently employed in these geoscientific organisations.
The current knowledge level of the institutions was assessed through the survey conducted by AEGOS project
in 2009.
3) The knowledge baseline is described as the minimum level of knowledge and skills required :
• from the AEGOS partners
• for complementary AEGOS-specific training
• In view to implement and operate the AEGOS geodata infrastructure.

The knowledge baseline will be described through professional profiles including a summary of skills required for the job specified on information technology,data/metadata/information management, provision of products/services and operational management. Since more details on elementary skills and capacities are required, further discussions will be conducted during the following months with WP1 ‘SDI, Reference Model, Metadata and data specifications’, WP2 ‘Architecture specifications’, WP3 ‘Identification of data themes, User oriented Products and Services’ and WP8/Task 8.5 ‘Sustainable AEGOS infrastructure’. The baseline and levels will also be discussed with all project partners at the Mid-Term Conference in Dar es Salaam since they are the basis for planning adequate training courses in the implementation phase of AEGOS.
